The race of elves have been wrongly decimated, forced into hiding, Maynard avoided direct confrontations and problems with Galbadian Military, acting as a refugee in the town of Windhill. Here, he kept practicing his magic, enhancing his abilities and developing a caring and nurturing nature to those who helped him, while acting aggressive towards those who menaced his peaceful existence.
As the years passed, Maynard became a rather nice fellow, Windhill was as quiet as it gets and the world didn't really seemed to be as dangerous as it had been, not until all this began to happen, which encouraged Maynard to become adventurous and brave, but never forgetting his humble nature.

Chased away from his hometown in Galbadia, Maynard looked refugee in Windhill and was taken in by a rather nice population of people who wanted nothing but to live in peace and quiet. For most of his life, this life was exactly as he wished, until Gaia started to act in such ways he could no longer stand idle in Windhill.
His past haunts him, what he has seen, the destruction Gaia has seen since his days as a kid, the killing of nature's best, the destruction and complete isolation from its magical surge, the creation and dependence on technology (Yes, he hates Iblis) has made him want to unwind, return or manipulate time/space to return things to its natural state.
